The history of the Dutch clock is explored by reference to the literature and typical examples in museums and private collections. The relationship between the Dutch clock and English and French clocks is also briefly discussed.

A review of the literature appears to indicate that authors in the English language have distinguished the importance and specifics of Dutch clockmaking much at a much earlier stage and with rather more verve than their Dutch colleagues.
