Update: Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office says it has opened a formal investigation into the Asia Argento case.

After Italian actress and director Asia Argento became one of the leading figures of the #MeToo movement by publicly accusing Harvey Weinstein of sexual assault, she enjoyed fervent support from her boyfriend, Anthony Bourdain, the beloved TV personality and culinary star who died by suicide in June.

But as the couple spent the past year speaking out against predatory men in the entertainment and restaurant industries, Argento, and possibly Bourdain, harbored a secret, according to a bombshell New York Times story.

It is that Argento, 42, had been accused of being a predator herself, the Times reported.

In her case, the accuser was a young actor and musician she had worked with in a film, the Times said.
