She grew up with her mother, grandparents and sister. She spent her childhood in her small town where her mother and grandparents use to farm. She was very much exposed to her mother and grandparent’s hard work. Janine finished a degree in Pharmacy as Cum Laude at the Pontifical and Royal University of Santo Tomas in Manila on June 2010.

She is now a Licensed Pharmacist. Janine also learned ballet and enrolled at the Ballet School of Manila as a ballet protégé while she was attending college. In 2010, Janine was titled Miss Pharmacy and Miss Thomasian Personality 2010 at the University of Santo Tomas.

Janine Tugonon holds the title Miss Universe-Philippines 2012 and placed as first runner-up in the prestigious pageant Miss Universe 2012.

Janine also placed first runner-up in Binibining Pilipinas 2011. Her roommate Shamcey Supsup won the title.
